Shanghai Trip (Jun 2016) - Day 1!

This is my final trip to Shanghai to visit the boy - his 18 months secondment is FINALLY over! Look who turned up at the airport with the cutest welcome "banner" and a small bouquet of pink roses

I landed in the late afternoon which means there wasn't a lot of time to go out. So instead we headed out to a Korean restaurant near his place and proceeded to spend the best part of the night packing for our trip to Beijing the next day.

Details up soon!

Descendants of the Sun

If you haven't been living under a rock in the last few weeks, you would probably have heard about this drama already. Actually if you were living under a rock, you might still have heard about it.

Yes because it's that big a deal - it's been viewed over 2 billion times in China and raked in over 40% nation-wide viewership in South Korea. The best part being, the show hasn't even ended its run!

The Koreans have done it again

I thought I could never love another drama so much after My Love From The Star about 2 years ago. Why?!?! Why do this to me?!?!?! Now I'm stuck in it.

I have absolutely no idea why I'm hooked onto it but I guess having 2 strong-minded female leads is the refreshing part for me. It's no longer about 2 needy people who can't make up their minds if they want to be together - and spending the entire drama serial playing hard to get with each other. This show stood out for me because both leads are independent complete individuals (one being the Captain of special forces and one being a doctor/surgeon) who are completely honest with their feelings for each other, right from the start. It's a story of 2 human beings with conflicting values (one saves through death as a soldier who kills for peace and one protects the human lives by being a doctor) who wants and commits to being together and that really worked for me.

Male lead being an absolute eye candy does help too.

Song Hye Kyo has always been my favourite South Korean actress (Autumn in my Heart classic from almost 2 decades away anyone?) and she doesn't look like she aged a single day since her first drama. Laneige skin products are going to fly off the shelves

Sigh. These Koreans are really pros at making you lose touch with reality. It took me a fair bit of discipline not to binge watch and I think that's a healthier way to enjoy such productions. I'm only at episode 5 when most of my friends are already on episode 14 (latest available one)

BRB while I continue swooning over these ridiculously good looking people and an increasingly exciting story line

Celebrating anniversary at USS!

This post is so 2000 and late but better late than never they say!

We celebrated our first year together last October - it wasn't the actual day but we didn't care. It's the person who matters, not the date  I used to have problems with my exes who places form/rituals over substance (i.e big flare-ups over not remembering anniversaries or no expensive gifting/dining places) but I'm so happy J is different.

So instead of romantic dinners/flowers and whatnot, we decided to just spend the day together doing something that we both enjoy.

Universal Studios Singapore!

I have no idea where the crowd came from - it's not the school holidays, it was on a weekday and it was freaking 9am ish!

Thank goodness, the crowd quickly dispersed the moment the gates open.

Took a wefie while waiting!

We went on ALL the vomit inducing ones (including twice on Cylon ) first so we could eat our late lunch in peace thereafter  J spotted a new attraction (actually I'm not entirely sure if it's new - been so long since our last visit!) and wanted to give it a try. It's free and you only need to provide your identification details and sign an indemnity form.

I didn't give this a try because I was and still am terrified of heights

We headed out to the ride at Jurassic World area - and no we did not fork out $4 to get those ponchos from the vending machine. Instead, we bought them for $2 at Daiso the day before. We are cheapos like that

If you don't want to buy their $4 ponchos and/or forgot to bring one of your own (trust me you WILL get wet from the ride), just get wet. There's a drying area after you exit from the gift shop (which you will have to pass through anyway after you finish the ride). It's supposedly chargeable but it was free for use on the day that we were there.

We headed out of USS for lunch (you can come back in if you still hold the same day ticket).

J requested not to post this on FB so I will post his silly face here

We headed off for some kiddy rides (so we don't waste our lunch) at Far Far Away. Personally, this is my favourite place of USS. I guess it's the castle setting!

We ended the amazingly fun day with dinner at Marche - with our favourite food!

Yup so that wraps up the celebration of our first year together. Here's to many more anniversaries!

Shanghai Trip (Nov 2015) - Last Day!

Day 7 is also my last day in Shanghai. Always so hard to bid goodbye to the boy after such a wonderful week together.

If you want to read about the earlier days, go Day 1Day 2Day 3Day 4Day 5 and Day 6!

I was taking the late night flight so technically we had the whole day to spare and do whatever activities we wanted to. I've always wondered what Mei Lan Lake is about (it's one of the train stations along the Metro Line 7 near the boy's apartment) so we decided to pay the place a visit.

Finally, we decided not to sloth around and left the house early enough to catch the Macd breakfast (they stop serving breakfast sets at 10am).

We are total pigs - we ordered breakfast enough for at least 3 people

It was a long train ride (Mei Lan Lake is at the end - or is it the start - of the Line 7). Views along the way is simply gorgeous (big plus that the skies remained clear!)

MeiLan Lake is a scenic spot (think Botanical Gardens in Singapore but with a lake) and it's full of families hanging out for the weekend and also couples taking their wedding photos.

We hung around till late afternoon (when our heavy Macd breakfast has long been digested and we were way too tired to walk anymore) and headed back home for my last home-cooked dinner (for this trip of course!) by the boy before we went to the airport

This was such a fun trip for me (although it looks like a very boring itinerary to most people ). Can't wait to visit the boy again in June before he comes back for good in early July!
