End of an awesome journey; Start of an interesting chapter
Many people will be shocked with my move, well even my favourite boss, V*ikram was taken aback. He thought all along R*evenue M*anagement was something I wanted to do for long.
I thought the same too.
Until it slowly and surely dawned to me - I still do love Finance, I still love investments. Don't get me wrong, R*evenue M*anagement is interesting. It's something I know I can easily excel in.
But it's a career path I cannot see myself walk down even in the next 5 years.
H*V*S is a global consulting and valuation firm for hotels, service apartments - to put it in the banking terms, they are supposedly the M*kinsey of the property/hospitality/real estate world.
My new role would be C*onsulting & V*aluation Associate.
V*ikram was upset not because I didn't want to do R*evenue M*anagement. He was upset I didn't tell him earlier it was something I didn't want to do.
"Whatever you wanted to do, R*evenue M*anagement or not, I'll do my best to support you. You know that..."
=((
It was a hard decision to leave S*tarwood - especially when you have a great corporate culture, the ever-supportive boss/mentor. When I expressed my interest to stay in S*tarwood (but I wanted Finance or Acquisitions/Development related roles) - the Director of Finance sat his senior manager down and asked if they could shift manpower around to include me in the headcount. The AVP of Acquisition took the time out to have a career prep talk with me as well - he said I'm too young to be stuck in a company just for the culture. I should be out rolling around for experience and learn tough financial skills.
See the world, roll around, get dirty, do more things - was what he said. The Senior Director of Financial Strategy told me the same thing.
The sweetest thing?
"No matter where you are, when you are in doubt of your career direction - I'm just a call away."
Hopefully one day, I'll make my way back.
As a more valuable employee.
