Saveur

After hearing many raves about it, we decided our next class gathering had to be at Saveur! And so we did :)

I love how simple and minimal the interiors are. It was soooooo crowded the day we went but we got really lucky and we waited for only around 15 minutes!

Saveur is really a great place if you want some affordable and super delicious French food. I've never really had French food but if they taste as good as Saveur's, that cuisine has sure got a new fan here! ;-)

Their menu is really fuss-free and to the point. Most reviews talk about the Confit of Duck which tasted super awesome! So is the confit of salon..and the crispy pork belly and.... basically everything else we ordered. Hahaha.

Pasta Starter: Angel Hair Pasta with minced pork and sakura ebi:

Paste Starter: Angel Hair with Tiger Prawns and Cavier:

Starter: Confit of Salmon with Apple and Fennel Salad. This.is.to.die.for! I had 2 servings of it. It was really soft like sashimi and tasted oh so divine.

Starter: Foie Gras, which everyone had except me. Hahaha

Zenna's main: Crispy Pork Belly with poached egg:

Jacqueline and her main: Pan Fried Beef Tenderloin with Carrot Puree and Potato Gratin. The gratin was to die for too.....

My main: Barramundi with Crab Potato and French Bean:

I am clearly no food critic/reviewer because I can't even begin to describe how good the dishes were. Hahaha. I finished everything and ate some additional portions from others. That should tell you how good the food is. Hurhur ;-)

No gathering is complete without some good wine :) We had a a 1985 vintage red wine (ok clearly I'm referring to the wine and NOT the group of us whom shared the same birth year.. Hahahaha) which was a little too smooth:

A 1993:

1 bottle of Moscato (no the bottle isn't in this picture). It was so sweet! Would have tasted better if it was thoroughly chilled :)

Jillene's birthday lands on the following day so we decided to celebrate it in advance. The backstory was that we planned it as a surprise but Yunwen mentioned it by accident over our Group Whatsapp chat and...so it wasn't a surprise anymore. Hahaha.

She was nice enough to fake some surprised expressions for us. Hahaha!

Once our class chairman, will always be our chairman. That's Zenna dividing the cake ;-) And erm me smiling on. Hahaha

It's always so fun to meet up these girls! :) I seriously can't wait for our next gathering in December which will be at La Cantine! (Well because Jac knows the Michelin star chef, Bruno, over there that's why we are heading over ;) )

From left: Peipei, Wen Ling, Jillene, Me, Zenna
On Right from lady in red: Julia, Jacqueline, Alicia, Jiayan

Meanwhile, just what Zenna mentioned in her toast: May all of us stay forever young, fun, happy! May careers continue to soar for all of us. Most importantly, great health and awesome love for all! :))

The gathering at 8 Treasures Vegetarian Restaurant

I can't believe it's been almost 10 years since I last saw some of the girls! (I mean besides WenLing whom I meet up every now and then for meals and skating at ECP). So proud to say we all still look pretty much the same. Zenna went from class chairman back when we were 13-16 year olds, to now being a boss at her dad's restaurant. "Bossy streaks never goes away!". What a crazy hilarious meetup :)

Left to right (top row): WenLing, Julia, Yunwen, Jiayan, Zenna (in specs)
Left to right (bottom row): Me, Alicia, Jillene
It was difficult for Zenna to get away from her duties at the restaurant so we had the gathering there instead! To be honest, I've never been a huge fan of vegetarian food. Well mainly because I'm not a vegetarian... HAHA. 8 Treasures surely has changed that!

Salted fried "chicken" made from soya beans - damn they taste real.
One of my favourite dishes for the night - vegetarian satay! Looks like the real deal, and definitely taste like the real one too!
This was my favourite dish of the night - mainly because I'm a sucker for fried stuff. But who knows deep fried lotus root taste so good??
Round 2 when the other half of the gang arrived - we had ahsam fish, Stir-fried kidney, GongPao Chicken - of course all were vegetarian. LOL
I'm definitely going back 8 Treasures Vegetarian with my parents one of these days - the food's great and ambience is perfect for family gatherings!

Tokyo Bananas!

Joyce got us some Tokyo Bananas from.... USA!

Love meeting up with the girls - it's been 10 years on and we are still that bunch of giggly chicks who became friends in the fateful 02A04 class in JC. I promise I will bring my camera for the next outing so at least we will take some proper shots! :)

Blogged from my iPhone

Congrats my dear girl! :)

"A decade of friendship and still counting, still loving every minute, every joke and everything about you guys. Thank you for everything, and for making 6 of us that one group on that ONE FATEFUL DAY back in JC."
L*yna got married today! :)))

That's what friends (and mumsie) are for

Someone up there has been kind to me, to bless me with a god-sent mum and circle of friends =)

Thanks to all the sweet Whatsapp messages, Yu*Hui is back up on her feet! Yes you know who you are, you, you and you. And yes that includes you, my dear ex-colleague! He has been hearing my rants for days man I swear.  Di was sweet, she called even when she was away in Phuket for a holiday.

I'll do my best - whether I get the final confirmation or not, I'll always bear in mind what my ex-ex-boss, V*ikram told me.

At the end of the day, it's just a job. Your well-being should be more important than anything else.

This time, let her bring me back to happiness

I just got off the phone with W*endy.

It's amazing how everyone just got your back when you are down and out. R*ichard and C*hristine were there to BBM me while I took the train back - trying very hard to suppress the very strong urge to cry. K*ang Xun was there to MSN me while I was on my way home too.

Don't ask me why I even feel like crying. I swear I could cry even if it's just the pen running out of ink.

Probably really hit my f*^king rock bottom.

Anywayz, I like how everyone is telling me this is not the me they know, she's cocooned beneath all these negative emotions.

AND SHE IS DYING TO GET OUT.

It's good to know there're people out there reminding you, who you were, and have always been. Enough I guess - of this venomnous presence running through my veins, bones and mind.

"Bring the sunshine in you back, this is not you. Not at all." I must have exhibited some sort of undying optimism and strength back then.

This time, I'll let her bring me back to happiness, where I was and will always be.

Shopping

I was telling Wendy I did so much dejunking (plus the part I did not buy anything to replenish) I'm left with nothing to wear.

Has booked Ethan for some hard core shopping next Saturday. Niahahahaha.

Can't wait to bitch with my biatch.

Hero

I was so down on Friday night (please don't remind me I have to re-write my Philippines report...) I got Wendy out to just hang out with me (yes when I say late it's like 11pm onwards).

And she gave me a song

"So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you"

She spent the next 2-3 hours just ranting with me. Don't you just love your girlfriends?

Feeellll the lurrvveeee

You know how they say when you lose one thing, you gain another?

I've always known I have many friends - but truth to be told, sometimes I secretly suspect some of them might actually think I'm kind of irritating.

Well because well I'm not exactly the most quiet person around. LOL

I've been showered so much lurrrvvveee over the past 2 weeks because of my lost love (well in another arena) and god I love you guys and girls!!!

I'm going to take A*manda's post and place it here ;-)

I loved it and I believe many of you out there will too :))

Happy Three Friends

I like how Daniel labelled the album so I shall steal it for this entry's title ;)

We celebrated Tzih Yih's, Jonathan's and Cedric's birthday yesterday, happy birthday boys!:

Cheers to 7 years of friendship and more!!!! ;)

Happy bday my dear girl =)

It's amazing how our friendship stuck on so strong after 4 turbulent years in university. Well minus off ZiQiang (the only guy) who entered our clique for an ulterior motive..HAHA.

(Top from left: Ziqiang, YiLing aka Ling-er, Yicui aka Cui-er, Joyce, Shuyuan aka Yuan-er)
(Bottom: Me aka Hui-er and Caixia aka Xia-er)

Happy 23rd Birthday Xia-er! =)))

Honestly we dunno you need to stand on the chair for birthday songs! Lol. Hope you enjoyed the surprise! =))

Wonder Bra of life

You know what they say about bosom mates. They are your Wonder Bra in life: They are close to the heart, push you up when you are down and make you feel good about yourself.

It's comforting to know my Wonder Bra is back from Australia. Hahaha. She is none other than my sweetheart, Wendy.

Oh no I'm really not lesbian. Lol

There's nothing better than us sitting opposite each other, with a cup of ice milk tea and laugh off all the unpleasant things in life. Like what Wendy says: "It's so good to have you around. I dunno how to describe that feeling but it's just so damn good."

Exact sentiments, babe =))

I dunno how I would have gone through the low points in my life without her and Huifang. Like what she says, after 10 years, we are still keeping each other afloat in the face of growing up pains and now, adult pains.

No wonder I felt like crying when I hug her for the first time after she came back.

A part of me has finally returned. =))

The sweetness of them all

In the midst of all these job hunting, emotional support is very important. I'm glad to know besides my family, my friends are really sweet too.

Keris says:
Jiayou all the best! can de can de =)))

YuHui says:
Thanks babe!

Keris says:
best of luck lah.. really hope to hear good news from u... =)

Keris says:
sincerely... even without the treat! muahahaa~ ;P

YuHui says:
thanks dear really thankssssss =))) Love ya!!!! *muacks*

JiaHui:
Don't worry, I'm sure good things will come your way soon =)) Cheers k =)

Jiahui says:

YuHui says:
Nope. but I already submitted it online =) Getting shortlisted or not is another thing though.

Jiahui says:
My fingers will always be crossed for you =)

YuHui says:
Thanks dear thanks so much =)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I feel extremely blessed. Really. Thank you everyone who has helped me or is helping me in every other way =)

One missed call

No no this entry is not about a horror story. It's quite a heartwarming one actually.

I had a missed call this evening 30 mins before my my tuition class and it was some weird number I couldn't identify with. Concerned that it might be a call from a company offering a potential interview, I called back.
Me: "Hi, I had a missed call from this number."

Unknown: "ME la"

*Pause for 2 seconds*

Me: "TAY KIAN PING! Oh my god I thought who sia."

KP: "Yea this is calling from ***"
(*** being the company I declined the offer)

Me: "HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAH. Shuddup la"

KP: "So how it is going?"
(Conversation continued for the remaining 20 min on current financial markets and his internship.)

KP: "You know big boys like Lehman are crazy. Can't just let the little ones F**K it all up man"

Me: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

KP: "What are you laughing at?!"

Me: "It's been very long since I last heard you swear the F word. Very nostalgic."

KP: "And you still laugh the same way la."

Me: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
We ended our conversation when it was time for my tuition and I guess his time to knock off as well. He wished me luck in scouting for the next better offer and we said goodbye. The last time I chat with Kian Ping was during Wei Han's farewell party (he was leaving to work in Dubai for 3 years). And we chatted 5 hours straight from banks to karma (Yea topics were that off. Haha). And before the 5 hr chat marathon was when he called me saying that he saw my favourite prof walking around in sports wear in school. Haha.

When I ended the call, suddenly I miss the Beijing days a lot. Meng, KP, Shou Woon, Amanda and me. Scouting for special eateries and exotic sight seeing locations together in a foreign land. Esp so for the 3 boys and me since we shared an apartment all the way. From being all polite to treating each other like family members - i.e we all saw the sloppy side of each of us. Shou woon with his un-styled hair, Meng in ah peh wear, KP in boxer shorts (which eventually became just a towel wrapping habit after 1 mth) and me in specs.

I never saw Amanda un-styled though. Hahaha. Not even when I was sharing a room with her in Qingdao. Lol.

Oh I miss those days. Really.

The road trip

I know this post is very late..but better than never ma =))

Photobucket
I can't even remember how our friendship started back in JC 1. Because the friendship was dynamic right from the start and my memories of this clique has been nothing short of crazily fun.

University separated us but did not lessen the love we have for each other. Noo..not the gay kind of love.

And on 18th June 2008, we decide to embark on a road trip together. We came back with more clothes, more laughters, and more love for each other.

You know how they say when friends go on holiday trips together, they either end up distanced or closer together. I'm glad, we got the latter deal =))

Singapore Airshow 2008!!

HAHA! Finally it's time to update on the Airshow :)

Because I couldn't find anyone who could make it on Saturday to watch the Singapore Airshow with me (My friends are either not interested or can't make it on Saturday.) so Mingkeat suggest that I tag along with him and his cousin, Malcolm.

I arrived earlier at Pasir Ris and was shocked at the number of people queuing up for the shuttle bus:
Gross.

Look at the queue!
I'm sure about half of Singapore's population is there. Hahahaha.

We managed to get on the bus after queuing for like 2 hours! Madness.

The airplane display was supposed to start at 12.15pm. But by the time we got on the bus it was like noon. And the traffic didn't look friendly :S

So we caught part of the plane display on the bus.

*Flustered noises from passengers in the bus about where the plane is coming from*
Me: "Where where?!"
Malcolm: "I think is there." *points to the left*
*I bent down*
Me: "Where?"
Mingkeat: "Here here here!"
*3 of us squat down to see the planes*
3 of us: "WAH WAH WAH!"

Hahahahahaha. That was practically what the whole bus trip was about. Hahahaha.

By the time we pulled into the destination, it was almost 12.40pm already!

Couple of shots taken from the bus:

1. Airbus A380:
Malcolm: "Wah zoom until like that."
Me: "Or else cannot see sia!"

2. Can you see the little plane?
Hahahaha

We didn't bother to queue up at the Registration stand because...
there were too many people -_-.

So we stood outside like everyone else:
Same for the 2 boys:
That's our beloved Airbus A380 taking off:
Airbus A380 video:
I'm sorry sometimes the camera seemed out of focus coz I was a bit blinded by the sun. Hahahaha. So I couldn't focus on where my camera was pointing. Lol.

And there were the Knights too:
Video of Knights:

After the display ended, we decide it was time to go into the Exhibition Centre. And there, we saw another queue:
Somebody kill me please.....

After much queuing, we got in. It sure is an international event man:
And then we saw some SAF stuff first:

Which I don't understand why they were there -_-

Please ignore that face and focus on the army thing behind.

A couple of photos on the fighter jets:

And then comes the highlight....

Airbus A380!!!!!! Chio-ness at it's prime I tell you.

It's too big to fit into my camera. Hahaha

The only A380 which can fit into my camera is:
My A380 plane model. Hahahahaha.

It's a dream come true to be in the same picture with the world's first A380 :)
Me, Mingkeat, Malcolm. Notice how red my face is. Yea, I nearly died of heat. Haahahaha.

After going through the other exhibits, we were too tired and burnt to go on any further and decide it was time to make our way home.

And then it was another queue:
It was like mass evacuation for Tsunami you know.

Taken from the bus:
We were just glad we had a seat on our way back man....

I was tired, but I couldn't sleep, I wanted to catch the last bit of the location before returning to Pasir Ris.

Whereas our ugly Singaporean here have fallen aslp:
While Malcolm studies:
We wanted to eat at BK in Pasir Ris, only to find....a freaking long queue!!!!!!!

Mingkeat: "OMG, it's another queue...."
Me: "Ok that's it, we are eating elsewhere..."
Malcolm: "Yea...."

So we took a train down to Simei, since Mingkeat need to send his hp for repair.

Me: "Hey Tam-pines has a lot of pple one lo, sit properly."
Mingkeat: "Eh dun say Tam-pines, sound wrong. Sound like *mumble tampons*"
Me in a loud voice: "HUH? TAMPONS AH?"
Mingkeat: "Eh! Dun say so loud la....."

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

Mingkeat: "I think the next cabin can hear your laughter."
Me: "My pleasure."

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

We alighted at Simei and had BK. I dropped by Challenger and finally got my external card reader:
And thanks to Mingkeat's ability to recite his dad's IC number like almost at a click of a finger, I got my member's discount. Hahahahaah

Yea I can use my digicam now!!!!!!! (For the un-initiated, I lost my digicam's cable..so I can't load photos. With the reader, I can!)
