Dancing Queen
From left: Björn Ulvaeus (Stockholm, Sweden), Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Norway), Agnetha Fältskog (Jönköping, Sweden), Benny Andersson (Stockholm, Sweden)
Looking at their names, you should have guessed how ABBA came about.
I am so ABBA-fied.
(Side track a little, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad were a couple before ABBA was formed. Same for Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog. They were supporting each other through song-writings and TADA....ABBA was formed! )
It all came about from a sudden urge to listen to "Dancing Queen". Don't ask me why the sudden craving for that song. I can never answer such questions. Now that "Dancing Queen" desire has morphed into a desire to listen to all ABBA tracks on repeat mode. I wanna watch "Mamma Mia!" too! (Benny and Björn produced the soundtrack! OMG!)
For this video, ABBA donned traditional 18th Century costumes when they first performed this song for King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden the night before he was married to Silvia Sommerlath on 18/06/1976. I love the piano parts!
You can totally feel how much they loved performing and of course, music as well. Man, wish I was born earlier, to watch them live is to die for.
Dancing Queen - ABBA
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen
Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for a place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music’s high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen
You’re a teaser, you turn ’em on
Leave them burning and then you’re gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen
I still remember Hannes' (Swedish exchange friend) extremely proud expression when he pointed at ABBA's album and said "They are Swedish". Haha. And it doesn't help that one of the female singers, Agnetha Faltskog was born in Jönköping, Sweden (where he came from). Super cute.
