The Legend lives on - M*ichael J*ackson

When the news of M*ichael J*ackson's death came about, honestly it didn't hit me very very hard. It was just a little surprising..because he was there before I was born and seemed to be there..all along.

Endless repeats of his videos and performances flooded MTV Channel, Taiwan News channels, China news and entertainment channels that very weekend - it became the first time I sat down and started to appreciate his music.

If you asked me a few months ago what would first come to my mind when you say M*ichael J*ackson, I would have told you just these couple of things:

1) Moonwalk
2) Heal the World
3) Plastic surgeries/Nose that might fall off
4) Child molestation
5) That scary video with his scary yellow eyes ("Thriller")

Sad I hardly know anything about the legendary King of Pop.

With your colleagues mopping around MJ's death (half of them are 30-40ish Americans who really grew up with his music) and MTV's re-run of his videos, it's hard not to notice his music once more.

It's just amazing that the songs he wrote a good 20 years ago still sounds right and incredibly catchy now. It's incredible how I actually "knew" a lot of his songs without realizing he was the original singer. I thought Mariah Carey was the original singer for "I'll be there". I've always thought "Black or White" and "The way you make me feel" was a Pepsi song. And that "Thriller" was just a cheesy scary video made in the 80s.

How naive.

It soon became a little painful that I didn't pay much more attention to this legend before he passed away.

Let's start from his childhood days in Jackson 5.

It's hard to believe a 11 year old child can sing with that much feelings - I'll Be There:

And in 2001, he performed it again on Jackson 5's 30th year anniversary:

I'll Be There - Jackson 5:

You and I must make a pact, we must bring salvation back
Where there is love, I'll be there

I'll reach out my hand to you, I'll have faith in all you do
Just call my name and I'll be there

I'll be there to comfort you,
Build my world of dreams around you, I'm so glad that I found you
I'll be there with a love that's strong
I'll be your strength, I'll keep holding on

Let me fill your heart with joy and laughter
Togetherness, well that's all I'm after
Whenever you need me, I'll be there
I'll be there to protect you, with an unselfish love that respects you
Just call my name and I'll be there

If you should ever find someone new, I know he'd better be good to you
'Cause if he doesn't, I'll be there
Don't you know, baby, yeah yeah
I'll be there, I'll be there, just call my name, I'll be there

(Just look over your shoulders, honey - oo)

I'll be there, I'll be there, whenever you need me, I'll be there
Don't you know, baby, yeah yeah

I'll be there, I'll be there, just call my name, I'll be there...

Unfortunately, he will not be there anymore, no matter how many times the world calls out to him=((

Not forgetting Jackson 5's classic hits which all reached Number 1 during their time: (MJ is the little lead singer)

I want you back and ABC - Jackson 5

Ben - Jackson 5:

I love how Ben is a song about a suicidal hamster which thinks no one cares about him =D

Out of all his great albums as a solo singer after that, my favourite has to be Billie Jean. I love how it still sound so so so timeless after 26 years.

Billie Jean - Michael Jackson performing it in 2001 on Jackson 5's 30th anniversary:

I love how he build up the audience's anticipation in the front and how he lets it all explode =D I love how Billie Jean was simply about a psychotic girl who believe MJ fathered her son!

Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
Written by Michael Jackson

She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one, who will dance on the floor in the round

She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round

People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

For forty days and for forty nights
The law was on her side
But who can stand when she's in demand
Her schemes and plans
'Cause we danced on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice
(Do think twice)

She told my baby we'd danced till three, then she looked at me
Then showed a photo my baby cried his eyes were like mine (oh, no!)
'Cause we danced on the floor in the round, baby

People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
She came and stood right by me
Then the smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon
She called me to her room

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She says I am the one

Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover

Billie Jean is
Billie Jean is
Billie Jean is

Not my lover
Not my lover
Not my lover
Not my lover

Billie Jean is not my lover (she is just a girl)
Billie Jean is not my lover (she is just a girl)
Billie Jean is not my lover (she is just a girl)
Billie Jean is not my lover (she is just a girl)

Billie Jean is
Billie Jean is

Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover

Billie Jean is
Billie Jean is

Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover

Billie Jean is
Billie Jean is

Classicccccccccccccccccccccccc!

Of course not forgetting great hits like Heal the world, You are not alone, Black or White, The Way You Make Me Feel, Dirty Diana, Beat it, Dangerous, Smooth Criminal, and not forgetting the biggest album of all time, Thriller

And it's just amazing to think he was the writer for these great classics and the choreographer for those amazing dance moves.

The more I listen to his songs and watch his performances...the more it bites into me that I wasn't appreciative of his music when he was alive. The more I realised how stupid it was to overlook all this musical talents and charitable acts (he still holds the Guinness World Records of supporting the most charities - he alone donated $50,000,000,000 through these years and supported 39 charities globally).

For the first time, I wish I was born earlier to witness the peak of his career and go through childhood with everyone around you worshipping a great performer with real talents.

Maybe Stevie Wonder was right - now God wants his angel back =). May MJ rest in peace and be remembered generations after generations for his great music, slick dance moves and charitable acts.
