Oh hello November :)

Hello world wide web! Budget season is finally over!

It's been so long since I logged into this space. And it's already November. I hate saying this but man the days are long and the years are indeed very short. Before we all know it, 2015 is coming to an end already.

Had a fabulous October because the boy flew back for 3 weeks. It's amazing there's still so many things to talk about when we converse almost daily via text and video calls. We also found time to head down to Universal Studios Singapore to celebrate our anniversary - albeit it was not the actual day but it didn't really matter :) Still had fun!

We also took time out to settle a few stuff which I will probably write about at a later date hurhur.

This is a little late but HELLO MY FAVOURITE MONTH OF THE YEAR! :)

Counting down to more fun times with the boy in Shanghai in 2 weeks time ❤

PSI 300

Open your windows now and you will know what helpless smells like. It's official. We have hit the big 3 in PSI as of 7pm today.

Woke up to burning smell in the middle of the night and I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise!

Keep yourselves hydrated and stay indoors everyone.

It's September already?

Time is flying by way too fast and before I actually realized it - it's already September.

Work has been extraordinarily busy these days with 2 new analysts coming on board. We had a fairly drastic turnover in the first half of the year and I'm just glad the team is now fully on track.

The month is already starting right with a few things on track:
1) The team is now functioning on full headcount;
2) I've been given full autonomy to coach the 2 newbies;
3) My training course on some skills upgrading has been approved by the CFO and HR folks! Commencing after this crazy budget season;
4) Back on course to running 7-10 km + 3 gym classes a week;
5) The man has an unexpected work trip planned for the upcoming week and we get to spend an extra long weekend together (since Friday is a Public Holiday due to Singapore's General Elections); and
6) He is visiting again at the end of this month for 2 weeks!

Not usually the biggest fan of Septembers (I have no real logical reason for that) but September 2015 is starting to sound like a month that I will love.

Enough with the gushing and it's time to go back to the budget memorandums!

Interruption

Please allow me to interrupt the avalanche of Myanmar trip updates with a piece of good news. Just booked my flights to Shanghai in May/June at a really cheap price. On SQ! =)

On another note, 23 more days to the boy returning home for Chinese New Year. Can't wait to spend one full week before he flies off again.

January is ending so quickly - we are already at the last leg of the first month of 2015! Brand new week, brand new day, brand new chance(s). Great Monday to all! :)

River Safari!

Myanmar photos are going to take some time to tidy them up. So I'm going to take the opportunity to update some backlog :)

Finally managed to find some time to make my way down to River Safari a few weeks back! The company had corporate passes - which translates to free entry for up to 4 people, including the Amazon River Quest boat ride. Being the usual cheapo, there's no way I was going to give up that chance.

We lucked out as its the "off peak" period. It was still the exam period for kids in Singapore so it really helps.I have friends who unfortunately visited during the year end school holiday period - not only do they have to queue at least over an hour for almost everything, they also had to jostle around to catch a glimpse of the animals.

I was expecting long queues at the Panda area but alas! No one! Lucky us :)

In comparison to Jiajia and Kaikai, I thought the red pandas were wayyyy cuter! They were not afraid of crowds or humans - very generous with the photo taking. Hahaha. One particular one was out sashaying and ensuring everyone had a good shot of him.

What a hardworking chap ;)

After spending much time with the red pandas, it's time to visit Kaikai and Jiajia! That's Kaikai sleeping like an absolute piece of log:

Jiajia, on the other hand, was much more awake and ready for the morning crowd!

We proceeded to have lunch at the restaurant near the panda zone - Mummy Panda Restaurant. You will probably see this at every table:

Panda bun! They come in 2 flavors - chocolate cream and red bean. We ordered the chocolate one and it tasted okaayyyy lah.

It's so cute I couldn't bear to eat it so the man suggested I peel off the ears and eyes first. True enough, when it started to look more like a bao, I no longer felt reluctant. Hahaha.

We ended lunch just in time for our booked slot for Amazon River Quest ride. On our way to the river ride :)

The ride was rather safe and uneventful (minus the mini splash at the start of the ride) - I guess we should have taken the ride earlier instead of 2pm. It was so hot that most of the animals were hiding!

We finished walking through all the aquariums and enclosures within about 3 hours (not forgetting we actually went back to the Panda area twice - well besides the cute furry pandas, it was also the coolest part of the River Safari with strong air con!).

Would I bring my parents here? I would if I also have the pass to go to Mandai Zoological Gardens next door on the same day. It would at least make the trip all the way to Mandai more worthwhile!

Back!

I'm back from a 7D6N stay in Myanmar - with a lot of smelly/dusty clothes and a deep chest dry cough in tow. Bagan and Mandalay was much hotter and drier than I expected it to be - while I do miss the friendly nice local folks and the beautiful scenery, I most certainly do not miss the weather!

The BF is down with chicken pox and I'm down with a really bad cough - what can I say except that misery loves company. Hahahaha. Looks like my birthday (actual day) this year will be quiet affair. Will do all the celebrations next week I guess when I'm feeling better to actually enjoy them.

I'm going to tidy up the photos and write about them soonest! :)

Mingalaba Myanmar!

Counting down to my flight to Myanmar in less than 12 hours!

Can't wait to take plenty of photos and I will be back to update all the backlogs I have :)

Meanwhile, for those who still makes the effort to drop by - have a great week ahead! :)

Friday

Decks of budget have been signed off (well except for 1 to 2 outstanding ones...) and the weekend is here!! Friday has not smell this good for a really long time.

Icing on the cake?

I've got a new blog header! :) It's like getting a new blog template and there is new found interest to update this virtual space more often.

Off to watch 'The Judge' with the boy and smell the first good (i.e free from reading all that budget memorandums and crunching financial statements) weekend since July!

Ermhmmm...Hello!

It's been so long since I last logged in that I almost can't remember my password. Almost. And obviously the first thing I did upon logging in was to attempt to change the blog template and now my header is gone. Booooo. Now I have to go locate back that header..

A lot has been going on at work with 2 new senior management folks joining us in early August - right smack in the season of the budget period. Madness will continue till mid October, which is about a week away!

I cannot wait for the budget figures to be signed off and loaded into the financial systems just so the entire office (or rather my team and the Finance folks) can go off for our well deserved break. Hopefully by then I can find time to update on all the things I've done and places I've been in the last 2 months.

Meanwhile, please bear with the bare space and lack of updates! :)

Chrome Momentum

Favourite secondary screen at the moment :)

Have a great Friday everyone! And yes I will be back to blog something more. Soon!

LOTR - The Two Towers

I'm a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings - although I admit that I tried (and failed terribly) at trying to read the great works of J.R.R Tolkien.

Went for the performance of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers orchestral performance by the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Vocal Associates Festival Chorus and Children's Choir yesterday.

It played the complete recordings of The Two Towers over 3 full hours against a big screen playing the movie with the same name. Magic. Pure magic, right from the very first note that hit the theatre when the New Line Cinema introduction appeared on the screen. Absolute chills.

I have a favourite piece from the complete recordings of The Two Towers: One of the Dunedain. And man did it gave me goosebumps last night when that piece was being played, in line with the movie scenes. Second part of this piece, known as "Evenstar" in the OST is definitely the best part of the piece.

"If Aragorn survives this war, you will still be parted. If Sauron is defeated, and Aragorn made king and all that you hope for comes true, you will still have to taste the bitterness of mortality. Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you - No comfort to ease the pain of his passing. He will come to death, an image of the splendour of the kings of men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world.... But YOU, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt, as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell, bound to your grief, under the fading trees, until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent."

So hauntingly beautiful :)

I hope they come back with The Return of the King next year! :)

Laryngitis

It's been a while since I've been so sick.

Over the last 8 days, I've visited the doctor 4 times and got 5 days of medical leave. The doctor finally gave up and gave me antibiotics after I developed laryngitis. Hahahaha. Love that exasperated look she gave me.

Now I sound like some out of tune machine that makes weird noises every time I try to speak. Nothing seems to work for me now so I will just have to wait it out.

Can't wait to fully recover!

Happy stuff

Weather in Singapore has been amazing these days - it has been a nice cool 24 degrees for most of the last 2 weeks. It most definitely has been putting me in a really gorgeous mood - stepping out to cool fresh air in the morning on my way to work. I quit taking the bus home in the last 2 weeks because the breezy evenings were just too hard to miss.

Guess what? It's gonna be 21 degrees this week.

I wish this weather could last all year long!

In other news, Chinese New Year is coming and I can't wait to feed myself all those new year goodies :)

Oh hiatus

Good lord. My last post was exactly a month ago.

I wish I could talk about exciting happenings that occurred off the world wide web which has made this blog space less enticing to log into. But....I can't because I have none. The past one month has been a whirlwind of gatherings, the mega office move and wrapping up a lot of loose ends to the budget for 2014. Oh and I finished the second half marathon this year :)

That's the brothers and I post-Standard Chartered Marathon 2013! Yes we swore never to do half marathons ever again since we never bothered to train for them. Hahahaha. But look! Here we are, being complete suckers and making poor life choices, as what the cabbie who drove us to the starting point said. Wahahaha.

Have a feeling this space is going to be empty for a while again as the favourite part of everyone's (I would like to think that way) year is coming in about 2 plus weeks!

Here's to wishing everyone a really Merry Christmas in advance! :))

Lisa Eldridge

Nothing says me time better on a Saturday than spending 2 hours at the salon getting some nice intensive protein hair treatment and a nice afternoon tea session with the girlfriend.

And of course, some quality time on Youtube.

I discovered Lisa Eldridge's channel through random surfing a few nights ago and I've completely fallen in love with her. She's like the Nigella Lawson of the make-up world! Absolutely love how detailed she is in explaining the make-up and god, she sounds amazing.

Not sure about you, but I find her voice extremely calming. Haha

You can see all her videos here and read more about her here!

Yet another hiatus

First up - a huge thank you to all those who still bothered to pop by for an update! I've been so busy at work that switching on my computer while at home is really the last thing I want to do.

So that pretty much explains the hiatus.

September flew by so quickly, more so for the first half of October! What do you mean it's already 20th of October? Last few weekends were spent trying to stay away from work emails (failed miserably) and fitting meetings with friends in-between. The end result is an extremely tired person who really just want to hole up at home under the blanket.

Just got back from a whirlwind 4 day work trip in Hong Kong - first 3 days were extremely well-spent, attending discussion forums with many CEOs and leaders of my industry and learning loads along the way. The 3rd evening was a night yacht ride to Lama island for seafood - while I've been to Hong Kong a few times, this is the first time I've truly paused to admire the skyline that the city was so famous for. It was honestly breath-taking. Managed to catch up with some friends over breakfast at the Australian Dairy Company on the last day before catching the flight back to Singapore. The scrambled eggs was amazing - all fluffy and oily. That being said, it's a rather stressful place to be eating because the staff rush you (so they could have a quicker seat turnover to accommodate the snaking queue right outside its little outlet).

In-between the Hong Kong madness, I caught The Great Gatsby, Now You See Me and half of World War Z on the plane. Talk about making good use of time!

Will have to try to take a break before going to Malaysia for another work trip early next month! GAH. Can't wait for all these madness to end!

Mega hiatus

Yes everyone I'm still very much alive. I apologize for the lack of updates - work is really really hectic. I never thought covering my own duties and coaching 2 others can be so so taxing.

16 days since the last post, after the wedding, The Piano Guys' performance, another wedding, an amazing meal at Tim Ho Wan, Jiahui's birthday, a few more gatherings that I have fuzzy memories about... and clearly I have loads of photo backlog that I have yet to update on! GAH.

Woe is the budget season for hotels! Nothing turns you away from writing anything substantial here when you come home from work at 10pm every night (last 2 weeks at least).

Time to go back to work now. I can't wait for this month to end just so this crazy period can be over and I can spend more time with the 2 new analysts.

Till then folks! :)

Random musings on relationships

It's midnight and I have a whole load of work to clear. This is such a workend - you like know working weekend. Hahahaha.

But nothing stops me from attending Hidayah's solemnization this evening at the mosque. First time in a mosque, first time hearing the prayers (I love how they make it so melodious) and definitely my first Muslim solemnization ceremony! I promise I will post more photos after the wedding ceremony tomorrow (we will all be in kebaya)!

I know I always end up NOT posting, but I promise I will do that tomorrow.

This clique of 6 girls - I can't even begin to say how important these bunch of ladies are to me :) By the end of this year, 3 of them would be married (with 1 being a mum by then!) and the 4th will wed next February. Shufen and I were conversing about this while on our way to the mosque this evening, where she mentioned part of her is ready to settle down but part of her still enjoys her single moments. So we concluded that she hasn't met that someone she's willing to throw aside her singlehood for. Hahaha.

What about you, she asked? Anyone after the last one? My last relationship made me felt tired of being in one, I said. The drama, the emotions, the bickering over minute things that could go on for weeks - I certainly don't miss any of those. I don't miss being entirely responsible for someone's happiness or unhappiness. I don't miss over-explaining myself about the excessive male friends I have - I'm sorry that I don't have many female friends. I am, however, completely happy with being on my own right now - going for dinner dates as and when, travelling for work without having to appease a sulking face or work really hard without having to answer to someone why I have no time for him.

As I go through more weddings this year, I started to ask myself if I ever had someone in my life so far whom I would want to walk down that aisle with? Someone I could say those vows while staring into his eyes and not have a single moment of regret? There isn't any. Oh. M. Gee.

But I would marry myself if I could. Hahahaha.

Does that make me someone unsuitable for another round of long-term relationship? I'm not sure. Maybe this feeling will eventually fade away, which I hope. At the end of the day, I think I still want to be married and probably have kids who are as annoying as me. But at this point in time, I just can't.

Holy, it's 12.17am right now. I have work to do and videos to watch on how to tie a batik skirt.

Meanwhile, have an amazing rest-of-the-weekend folks! I will be back (I swear I will be) with more pictures! :)

Hiatus

A friend reminded me yesterday I still have a blog. Why yes! This is what happens to you when you have a long weekend, a crazy work week and another insane 7 days of corporate travel - you lose track.

Came home on a red eye flight (I'm never doing this again) and landed in Singapore at some ungodly hour in the morning. Managed to unpack and crawled into bed at around 7am. Woke up a few hours to catch an amazing birthday lunch with the band mates at Mad for Garlic and caught the Night Festival 2013 with Dan! Sometimes I'm amazed at myself for able to hold up so much activities in a day despite having minimal sleep.

Spent Sunday afternoon at the granny's and bam, my weekend is over! Time sure jets by when you are having too much fun :)

Can't wait for work tomorrow although I know there's a lot of work waiting for me. I stopped checking my emails after it hit 132 unread as of Saturday noon.

Hope all of you had an amazing weekend and gorgeous week ahead! :)

Life and other things

Caught the Phantom of the Opera yesterday night with the sister and another friend in tow (he's already watched it 5 times in various parts of the world! Envious much). We had the centre stall seat and the view is amazingggggg.

Phantom sounds really nasal last night! Hahaha maybe he has the flu. Claire Lyon as Christine was still impressive though! The cast is moving to Shanghai in December - well I pray my work will allow me to jet there by end of the year and maybe I will catch it again. Watching it the second time allows me to focus on the details and little nuances of each song and the body language of the Phantom in different scenes. Oh and how one piccolo went off tune for 3 notes during the Overture. Sometimes having a band background is not necessarily a great trait.

In other non-Phantom news, work has been extremely busy but fulfilling at the same time. Now that the new analyst is on-board and another is coming in about 2 weeks time, I have the additional role of supervising kiddos. Did I mention I feel really old now? Hahaha.

As for non-work related news. I'm so going to fail my Bahasa Indonesian Intermediate 1 Level. I have 2 months to make up my lack of talent in the language and make my money worthwhile!

That's all folks. Will be jetting off again this weekend for work - brand new city and brand new hotel. Can't wait :)
